What is wrong with garrett atkins?

Did this guy just forget how to hit? I mean this was a guy who has driven in 100 runs two years in a row before not too long ago. The reason I bring him up is there is talk that he is in jeopardy of being released by the Orioles and I want the Yankees to get him as a bench player. Does anyone have an explanation for why he all of a sudden has become as bad as a pitcher hitting?
