An atheist wearing religious jewelry?

I have always been fascinated by certain religious symbols, the cross, hand of hamsa and the star of david to name a few, I have found many pieces that are incredibly beautiful pieces of art and I enjoy wearing them as well, even though they have no real symbolic significance to me, another friend of mine said she feels hypocritical every time she wears a cross because she is not a christian. I told her that you do not need to be religious to enjoy its artwork. Am I wrong in this? Am I being hypocritical?
