Events that happened on 1990's in kuwait and iraq?

Early in August 1990, the Iraqi Army invaded and took over Kuwait. The US and several arab and european powers imposed economic sanctions on Iraq and formed a coalition to force the Iraqis out. The buildup to contain the Iraqis was called Operation Desert Shield. After Iraq failed to leave Kuwait by mid January 1991, the coalition launched Operation Desert Storm. It began with a mive aerial campaign to weaken the Iraqi armed forces. After a few weeks of bombing, US, British and other forces drove into Kuwait and Iraq to mop up and drive out the remaining Iraqis. Kuwait was retaken with minimal losses, but Saddam survived, and sanctions remained in place. These caused great hardship and much loss of life in Iraq. There were also occasional clashes, but no resumption of war in the '90s, i.e. not until 2003.
