Hp laptop won't turn on?

i have an HP dv7-1020us laptop, and i left it on when i went out of town on accident, when i came home, it was off. when i tried to boot it back up, the computer's volume displays and stuff will light up (num lock and caps lock lights will flash alternatly also), and i can open the CD drive, but the monitor will not turn on.i've tried taking out the harddrive and attaching an external monitor, but i still can't even get to my BIOS... i know my motherboard is probably fried, but if it is, is there i way to fix it, or a cheap way to get a replacement?... 400 bucks for an almost out dated laptop motherboard is ludicrous when you can buy a better laptop for like 250
